“About 4 years ago, I was told by certain people that I didn’t have a bikini body. Mind you, this was during my phase of trying to be “skinny” so I was a lot smaller than I am in the picture right here. . . The way people spoke to me about my body became more powerful than the voice of my subconscious, because I allowed it to. It was humiliating to be told that my thighs are too thick for a bikini or that I have a larger butt. . . Over the years as I fought my body complex, as I learnt that the only opinion of my body that matters is mine, I stopped giving a f**k about what others had to say about it. . . And I still remember the first time I wore a bikini after a shift of mindset and I felt so comfortable in my own skin. I took ownership of who I truly was and loved myself completely and wholly. (By now I had put on a lot more weight and wasn’t all skinny anymore). I was so much happier in my body at that moment, than I was the day I achieved a slim body. . . And ever since, I’ve always enjoyed wearing bikinis. And whoever I meet or any chance I get to tell people, i make sure I remind them that all bodies are bikini bodies. Wearing a bikini and feeling sexy in your skin can be a beautiful feeling. This saree belongs to my mother and will always be so special to me. 💛 Why, you ask? . When I was a little girl and back when my father was in the Indian Army (he’s a retired Colonel now), my mother used to have these events and gatherings at the Army Clubs and the dress code was always an elegant saree. I must have been around 14-15 years old then, and I remember watching my mom get dressed for those events and get so fascinated at the way she would pleat her saree and hold the safety pin between her lips as she adjusted the pleats and her pallu. And she has the most gorgeous collection of sarees collected from states all across the country and some even custom made (like the one right here). I always wondered when I would get to wear these special pieces from her wardrobe, when suddenly one day when I was to attend my high school graduation, she came up to me with a saree of hers and said, “It’s time, my beautiful girl”. ☺️ . I will never forget the day I wore my first saree that belonged to my mother and I’ve never looked back since. Every time I want to wear a saree, my parents offer to buy me one of my choice and I always refuse. I’ve always enjoyed wearing sarees that belong to my mom and to this day, I have never worn a single saree that didn’t belong to her. There’s something pure and beautiful about this, isn’t there? 💛✨
